The clear grade matters for customer-facing equipment and building panels. A black or gray sealant would look like a patch. Clear silicone looks intentional. It also lets our maintenance techs see if water is tracking behind the seal. That has saved us a ton of diagnostic time.

Washer rubber seal

A washer rubber seal is a small part with a big failure cost. When one leaks on a pump or valve, the fix is not always a thicker washer. Often it is the wrong lubricant, over-torque, or a seal compound that does not match the fluid. I keep a small matrix of approved seal materials and lubricants. The fundamentals have not changed. You still need the right material for the temperature, chemical exposure, and movement. But the execution has transformed. A purchasing admin who ignores that is going to look bad.

I am not an engineer. I do not pretend to be one. My job is to make sure the people who do the work get the right product, with the right paperwork, at the right time. That means I ask more questions now. The vendor is 'flexible.' What I mean is they will negotiate if you push. But flexibility does not matter if the product is wrong.

What I verify before I order
